Fall, 2018:

DEC 12th– Egyptian Coloring Page Stress Buster

We’ll be giving a short presentation on ancient Egyptian pigments and paints, and then have a blast with some awesome ancient Egyptian inspired coloring pages!

NOV 14th – Hieroglyph Workshop

Ever wondered about the mysteries of Egyptian hieroglyphs and wanted to make sense of this beautiful language? In this workshop, we’ll go over the basics of the ancient Egyptian language, it’s history and many forms, how Egyptologists study it, as well as some of the glyphs and basic grammar. This is an entry level event, no prior knowledge or experience necessary!

NOV. 10th – Literature Reading of Egyptian Myth and Stories

With over 4,000 years of history and language, the ancient Egyptians came up with some incredible stories. Unfortunately, so much of our culture is focused on Greek and Latin literature, and the Egyptian contributions to ancient literature are only really known and accessible to Egyptologists. Needless to say, we’re doing our part to change that. For this workshop, we’ll go through some of the highlights of Egyptian myth and stories, such as The Doomed Prince, The Shipwrecked Sailor, and Se-Osiris and the Sealed Letter, The Tale of Sinuhe, and others. All stories will be provided at the meeting. We hope to host multiple literature readings throughout the year, so stay tuned!

NOV. 7th– So you want to be an Egyptologist Info Session

This session is aimed at people who are curious about going into the academic field of Egyptology. There are a lot of research tricks and tips and graduate school information you should know, and we can help! We’ll be going over the best Egyptology resources, advice for how to study Egyptology at Bryn Mawr, as well as organizations you can join, and what traditional trajectories there are for making your way into the Egyptology world. We hope to see you there!

After months of planning, we’re excited to announce that the Bryn Mawr College Egyptology Association will be officially launching this week! Be sure to come check out our info meeting Thursday at 4:30 in the Quita Woodward Room. We’ll be discussing our plans for the year, including a film series, educational workshops, and collaborations with Bryn Mawr Special Collections!
